LNG is stored and transported at cryogenic temperatures as low as -162°C (-260°F), requiring materials that can maintain their mechanical properties under such extreme conditions. Duplex steel plates offer excellent toughness and impact resistance at low temperatures, ensuring the structural integrity of LNG tanks and pipelines. They resist brittle fracture at cryogenic temperatures. This makes them a reliable choice for LNG infrastructure.

Welding is a critical aspect of LNG infrastructure construction and duplex steel plates offer excellent weldability. Modern duplex stainless steels are easy to weld. They also keep their strong mechanical and corrosion-resistant properties. Duplex steel has low thermal expansion. This reduces distortion during welding. As a result, the welded joints have better dimensional stability and integrity.

In addition, duplex steels need less preheating and post-weld heat treatment than other high-performance alloys, thus making the welding process more efficient and economical.
